CODE OF CONDUCT
COMPLIANCE WITH LAWS AND REGULATIONS:
- Members shall comply with all relevant Laws, regulations and SATAHWA’s constitution and bylaws.
- Awareness of and adherence to legal requirements governing traditional healing and wellness practices.
THE HEALER’S PURPOSE:
- Ethical Conduct of Practices:
- Members shall conduct themselves with honesty, integrity and transparency in all professional dealings.
- Adherence consent and open communication with clients regarding treatment options.
- Professionalism:
- Members shall conduct themselves with the utmost professionalism in all interactions, both within SATAHWA, their clients and with the broader community.
- Respectful and courteous behaviour towards colleagues, clients and the public.
- Responsible Communication.
- Members shall communicate respectfully, ethically and responsibly in all forms of communication.
- Avoidance of offensive language, misinformation or harmful communication.
- Environmental Responsibility:
- Members shall consider the environmental impact of their Traditional Healing and Wellness practices and adopt sustainable approaches wherever possible.
- Awareness of the ecological consequences of using specific plants, herbs or remedies.
- Commitment to Holistic Wellness
- Members shall prioritize the holistic well-being of individuals, addressing physical, mental and spiritual aspects of health.
- Promotion of practices that contribute to wellness and balance.
- Integrity and Honesty:
- Members shall uphold the principles of integrity and honesty in their professional activities.
- Truthful representation of qualifications, services offered and traditional healing practices.
- Equality and Acceptance:
- Healers render care to beings regardless of race, sex, cultural, national or ethnic origins, or political persuasions.
- Healers and clients are equal partners in the process of healing.
- Respect and Unconditional Regard:
- Healers respect the beliefs, values, customs, choices and coping mechanisms of the individual.
- Healers offer care from an infinite field of love and compassion.
- Confidentiality:
- Members shall maintain the confidentiality of client information and shall not disclose any confidential information without written consent of the patient.
- Use of secure and confidential methods for storing and transmitting client data.
- Collaborative Practices:
- Members shall foster a collaborative and supportive environment within SATAHWA.
- Willingness to share knowledge, insights and experiences with fellow members for the betterment of the community. their clients.
- Members shall collaborate with fellow practitioners and professionals, fostering a spirit of mutual respect and cooperation.
- Avoidance of unprofessional criticism or undermining of colleagues.
- Accountability and Compliance:
- Members shall take responsibility for their actions, acknowledging mistakes and learning from them.
- Adherence to SATAHWA’s constitution, bylaws and relevant legal requirements.
- Acknowledge your limitations as a Traditional Health Practitioner. As a Traditional Health Practitioner, you are not allowed to use any medical instruments like injections, draw blood and put on drips. It can only be done by as phlebotomist.
- Acknowledge your limitations as a Natural Medical Partitioner. A Natural Medical Partitioner sees people with all sorts of medical problems and treats them with remedies made from medical herbs, rather than drugs. Almost any conditions are treated with natural remedies apart from acute conditions which need surgical intervention.
- Refer patients if you are inadequately equipped.
QUALIFICATIONS OF HEALER
- Educational Integrity:
- Members offering educational services or courses shall provide accurate and reliable information.
- Avoidance of misleading claims or misrepresentation.
- Initial Training:
- Healers provide services commensurate with their training and perform only those services for which they are qualified.
- Healers observe all laws and uphold the dignity and honour of their profession.
- Professional Development:
- Members shall commit to ongoing professional development to enhance their knowledge and skills in traditional healing, remedies and wellness practices.
- Healers avail themselves of opportunities for continuing professional education and training to maintain and enhance their competence.
- Healers work with others in their field and the healing professions in general to maintain and monitor high professional standards of care.
- Healers acknowledge that clients may bring lessons to the healer.
- Healers recognize that their presence and way of being are as important to the healing process as the modality that they practice, so it is important for healers to engage in ongoing personal development.
- Self-Care and Self-Healing:
- Healers identify and integrate self-care strategies to enhance their own physical, psychological, sociological and spiritual well-being.
- Healers consciously cultivate awareness and understanding about the deeper meaning, purpose, inner strengths, and connections with self, others, nature, and God / Life / Force / Absolute / Transcendent.
- Healers model healthy behaviour and engage in practices that nurture self-wholeness and well-being, teaching by example.
- Healers recognize that every person has healing capacities that can be enhanced and supported through self-care practices.
PROFESSIONAL BEHAVIOR
- Guiding Principles:
- Healers embrace the following principals in their professional behaviour: reverence, respect, trust, honesty, integrity, equality, competence, generosity, courage, humility and confidentiality.
- Healers maintain a compassionate regard for the client by demonstrating a way of being that is courteous, tactful, sensitive, accepting, empathetic and non-judgmental.
- Communication and Confidentiality:
- Healers maintain clear and honest communication with their clients and keep all information, whether medical or personal, strictly confidential. A healer may not reveal the confidences entrusted in the course of the professional relationship, or the peculiarities he or she may observe in the character of clients, unless required to do so by law or to prevent harm to client or other persons.
- Healers cooperate with other healing professionals, including physicians, nurses, other complementary/ alternative therapists, psychologists, counsellors, scientists and religious personnel and other professional caregivers in the exploration and provision of healing modalities.
- Availability and Accessibility:
- Healers shall make known their availability and accessibility to clients in need of their professional services.
- Having undertaken care of the client, healers may not neglect the client.
- Should healers become unavailable, they should make appropriate referrals to other therapists.
- Healers may discontinue services only after adequate notice.
- Maintaining Appropriate Boundaries and Parameters of Practice:
- Healers maintain appropriate boundaries for self and client and do not enter into inappropriate relationships with clients or take physical, emotional, sexual, psychological or financial advantage of clients.
- Healers do not make medical diagnoses or prescribe medications without appropriate training and licensure.
- Healers do not recommend nutritional supplements without appropriate knowledge.
- Healers associated with the development or promotion of products should disclose any vested interest and ensure that such products are presented in a factual and professional way.
- Relationships with Colleagues:
- Healers must know the limits of their professional competence.
- Healers know that a patient’s health and safety may depend on receiving appropriate services from members of other professional disciplines. Healers are responsible for maintaining knowledge of, and appropriately utilizing the expertise of such professionals on the patient’s behalf.
- In referring patients to allied professionals, healers ensure that those to whom they refer patients are recognized members of their own disciplines and are competent to carry out the professional services required.
- If Healers’ services are sought by individuals who are already receiving similar services from another professional, consideration for the patients’ welfare shall be paramount. It requires healers to proceed with great caution, carefully considering both the existing professional relationship and the spiritual/therapeutic issues involved.
- Validation
- Healers acknowledge the sources of their teachings as either traditional, derived through personal intuition or based upon research.
- Conflict of interest:
- Members shall avoid conflicts of interests that may compromise their professional judgment.
- Full disclosure to SATAHWA of any potential conflicts and commitment to addressing the situation appropriately.
- Reporting Violations:
- Members shall promptly report any violations of this Code of Conduct to the SATAHWA leadership.
